 OKBET UCI Mountain Bike

Les Gets, France, will host the 2022 World OKBET MTB Championships, with 15 medal sets on offer from August 24-28, 2022 at OKBET UCI Mountain Bike.

The 2022 OKBET UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in Les Gets, France, will cap up a hectic season for the world’s top mountain riders. Hundreds of the world’s best mountain bikers have joined 15 medal races over five distinct mountain riding events.

Medals will be awarded in the Olympic discipline of cross-country (in men’s and women’s junior, under-23, and elite categories) as well as non-Olympic events of cross-country short track (men and women), cross-country relay (mixed team), electric mountain bike cross-country (men and women), and downhill individual (men’s and women’s junior and elite categories).

The competition really starts on Tuesday, August 23rd, with qualifying rounds in the men’s short track event, before the main event starts on August 24th with the team relay at OKBET UCI Mountain Bike.

What are the short course, relay, electric MTB, and downhill events at the OKBET UCI Mountain Bike World Championships?

Cross-country Olympic (XCO), the benchmark event within the mountain bike discipline and the only one now conducted in the Olympic Games, is the most recognizable competition at the OKBET UCI Mountain Bike World Championships. But what about the remaining four events?

Cross-country short track (XCC) is a variant with a much shorter loop – at Les Gets, a single circuit of the XCC course is 905m (0.56 miles), compared to 3.39km for the XCO course (2.11 miles).

Teams will propose six cyclists for the cross-country relay (XCR), one from each XCO age group (men’s and women’s elite, under-23, and junior) to race as a mixed relay team against the other nations.

Riders in electric mountain bike cross-country (E-MTB or E-XC) utilize an electric battery-powered bike. The electric engine will only supply power when the cyclist is pedaling, therefore there will be no power production until the rider makes a pedal input. The engines are limited to a maximum speed of 25km/h (15.5mph) and a continuous power rating of 250 watts at OKBET UCI Mountain Bike. The E-MTB route is also somewhat shorter than the XCO circuit, measuring 2.6 kilometers (1.6 miles). This is a very new event, having just recently joined the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships program.

The downhill individual event is also being held at Les Gets (DHI). This is not a direct head-to-head race; instead, cyclists begin at the top of the hill and sprint to the bottom of a 2.4-kilometer (1.5-mile) track against the clock.

Stars to watch in the OKBET UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in Les Gets in 2022

The majority of the elite mountain bikers will be at Les Gets at OKBET UCI Mountain Bike, having just returned from the Commonwealth Games and European Championships in Birmingham and Munich, respectively.

Tom Pidcock of the United Kingdom and Loana Lecomte of France, both newly minted European XCO champions, will be looking to convert their European – and, in Pidcock’s case, Olympic – championships into the world champion’s rainbow jersey for the next season.

Pidcock, the 2020 under-23 XCO and elite OKBET E-MTB world champion, will go up against local hope Jordan Sarrou and Switzerland’s Nino Schurter; on the women’s side, Lecomte’s colleague Pauline Ferrand-Prevot and Olympic winner Jolanda Neff are also among the favorites.

Lecomte is missing the XCC race, which should enable Ferrand-Prevot and Neff to seize the lead, although Pidcock and Schurter will have to compete in an extra qualifying round if they want to win gold.

The men’s OKBET E-MTB competition has an unexpected entry: three-time road cycling world champion Peter Sagan, who began as a mountain biker. In downhill, current World Cup leaders Amaury Pierron of France and Camille Balanche of Switzerland are considered favorites.
